WEEKLY ARTS MAGAZINE.

IN THIS EDITION OF WYLD RYCE,

WE'RE GOING TO MEET TWO

EXTRAORDINARY MUSICIANS, IGGY

POP AND TAJ MAJAL.

HI, I'M DAVE FROM KQRS RADIO.

YOU KNOW, POP MUSIC SEEMS TO

MAGNIFY A LOT OF THE THINGS

THAT GO ON IN OUR SOCIETY.

POP STARS RISE HIGHER, BURN

OUT QUICKER AND FALL FARTHER

THAN ANYONE ELSE.

IT ALL HAPPENS SO FAST, IN THE

POP MUSIC WORLD, TEN YEARS CAN

BE AN ETERNITY.

IN THIS WYLD RYCE, WE'RE GOING

TO TAKE A LOOK AT TWO

PERFORMERS WHO HAVE LASTED TEN

YEARS AND MORE, AND MAYBE WE

CAN TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHY.

THE FIRST ONE IS IGGY POP.

AND HE STARTED PLAYING HIS

UNIQUE BRAND OF MUSIC AT THE

END OF THE '60s.

HE WENT THROUGH A LOT OF UPS

AND DOWNS SINCE THEN, DRUGS,

JAIL, MENTAL HOSPITALS, YOU

NAME IT, IGGY'S BEEN THERE.

BUT HE SURVIVED AND HIS CAREER

IS GOING BETTER NOW THAN IT

EVER DID.

PEOPLE HAVE CALLED HIM THE

GODFATHER OF PUNK ROCK.

WHATEVER YOU CALL HIM, HE'S

RAW AND HE'S VIOLENT AND HE'S

GETTING MORE POPULAR ALL THE

TIME.

A LOT OF ROCK AND ROLL IS

POSITIVE MUSIC, WHILE IGGY'S

MUSIC ISN'T, IT'S ABOUT AS

NEGATIVE AS YOU CAN GET.

BUT THERE'S A CERTAIN HONESTY

TO HIM THAT COMES RIGHT

THROUGH.

WITH A LOT OF GROUPS YOU CAN

TELL IT'S AN ALL AN ACT, BUT

WITH HIM, YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT

IT'S 100% AUTHENTIC.

AND MAYBE THAT'S WHAT MAKES IG

GUESS POP.

>> HE GETS THE ANXIETIES OUT,

YOU KNOW.

HIM DOING ALL THAT STUFF MAKES

YOU FEEL GOOD, YOU KNOW.

THEN YOU LEAVE, MAKES YOU

LAUGH.

>> WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT HIM?

>> GREAT.

>> OH, YEAH.

>> IT'S THE MUSIC.

IT'S MORE THAN JUST THE MUSIC.

YOU HAVE TO SEE THE MUSIC WHEN

IT'S LIVE BECAUSE THE SHOW IS

A BIG PART OF IT.

IT'S LIKE AN EXPERIENCE.

>> IT'S JUST GREAT.

HE'S PURE ROCK 'N ROLL.

REALLY EXPRESSIVE, HIS VOCALS.

AND HIS LYRICS, JUST ONE OF

THE GREATEST.

GIVEN THE RECOGNITION THAT HE

SHOULD HAVE HAD, ROCK 'N ROLL
