VOCES

Mi Familia Vota
Ahead of the 2020 Nevada caucuses, Mi Familia Vota works to register young voters in this key battleground state. Organizers go to high schools and supermarkets in the heart of the Latino community; engaging and educating this electorate with the hopes of a historic turnout for this young and growing demographic.

Hello, my name's Jasmine Gomez,
I'm the voter registration organizer withMi Familia Vota.
Years ago, literally no one could vote
besides our white males.
But that's not the case anymore.
Now, so many people can vote,
and we should be taking advantage
of that power that we have.
Raise your hand if you did want a voter registration form
and we'll walk you through it.
So, for the forms you guys need a black pen,
do you guys have one?
So, in Mi Familia Vota,
we believe in a holistic approach to engaging democracy
and civic participation.
And we do everything to empower communities,
because Latino power
is at the center of everything that we do.
We have 14 offices in six states,
and we do ground operations on voter registration,
GOTV, voter education,
census, citizenship.
We're literally on the frontline
protecting and defending our democracy.
We are gonna be doing our caucus training this Friday
and it's gonna be in Spanish.
Invite them to our training this Friday.
Let 'em know that it's happening,
let 'em know it's in Spanish,
and just be very welcoming with them,
'cause we want the community to be there,
at the end of the day, it's for them.
This is a very unique opportunity because
it is the very last opportunity
to provide the community with the training,
with the tools they need to participate in the caucus.
Alright, let's do our thing so we can get going.
Alright, let's head out.
This is the most important work that will happen in our nation
and I'm not exaggerating.
We are literally under attack.
We are structurally being excluded
from the most important spaces of power.
Hate crimes against Latinos and immigrants
have increased 26% in the last three years
under the most anti-immigrant administration
that we have in our history.
Right now, we know that unless we get the political power
that we deserve,
we're gonna continue to face these horrible attacks.
Latinos and immigrants,
will be playing a central role
in protecting and defending our democracy.
