Death on the Job

Construction worker Roendy Granillo was 25 years old when he died from heat stroke on the job. His family recounts the day he died. Looking at pictures of Roendy in his room as he left it, Roendy’s parents reflect on the lack of information they had that could have prevented Roendy’s death.

Dispatcher: 9-1-1. What is your emergency?

Caller: Yes. Hawthorne Lane?

Dispatcher: What's going on ma'am?

Caller: We're in a new neighborhood.

One of the workers, the Mexican workers came over

and said one of his partners is extremely ill.

It's really hot, they've been working, and he just asked me to please call.

Dispatcher: Ok we'll get somebody out there.

Newscaster: 25 year old Roendy Granillo of Haltom City died July 19th.

He was working on a construction site in Melissa

but died at the hospital that evening.
