Stage Players: Cathy Taylor
Cathy Taylor’s first job in Chicago was as Publicity and Communications Director at Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Since 2007 she has run Cathy Taylor Public Relations, where all her clients are theatre companies she sincerely loves.
- Seeing actors in a rehearsal room,
that's why I do what I do, that's why I love this,
that's why Chicago theater is so awesome.
My name is Cathy Taylor and I am
a Chicago theater publicist.
These are my clients, A Red Orchid, American Blues.
My rule is I will only take theater companies
where I want to see their shows.
There are more than 200 theater companies.
There is something for everyone.
But not everything is for everyone.
I can help paint the picture to the public
of this is your show.
Some days I'm just sitting at my desk writing emails.
Other days I've got a TV shoot in the morning.
One of my pet peeves when people call me and say,
"I know you're really busy," or, "I hate to bother you."
We live for calls from journalists.
I have taken off people's glasses,
critics' glasses, and cleaned them.
Part of my day is seeing a play, how bad can that be?
When I was living in New York City I saw Buried Child
and that started my fascination with Chicago theater.
Why would you want to live in a world
where people weren't talking about theater all the time.
