Thank you very much.

You just dropped your new album

just in August.

It's been a long time comin'.

He's been pestering me about it too.

I have, I really have.

All right, so let's talk a little then about,

okay first of all to the band.

Can we get some for the band.

(applause)

Now you've only been playin' with these guys

for a few months to a year now?

So the band's evolved over time.

So the first record was, you know,

I had just finished with school at University of Georgia

and, go Dogs, and so I just finished school there

and met some people in Atlanta and those.

You know, Phil was one of those guys back then

and a few other people that we play with when we have horns.

And those guys played on the record

but it was more of a, hey, I've got these songs,

let's come figure it out.

And this new record has been,

you know, we've been playin' a lot of these songs

on the road, developed them that way.

The band's kind of changed throughout that process.

But, you know, we've settled into this.

I'm really happy with this kind of four piece feel

for the past couple months since the record's come out.

It's definitely, the new record is more accurate

to the live show because that's how it was kind of shaped.

Well, I was gonna say, so listening just

to some of the tracks that I've got a chance to preview

before tonight, I did hear a marked difference

between Where to Run and Unarmored.

So is that what you were going for

with that sort of live feel with this record?

Yeah, I--

'Cause I notice you got a lot more horns on this one.

Yeah, there's more horns which we didn't bring,

you know, it's hard to travel with so many people.

So, sorry.

(laughter)

He has an entourage.

(laughter)

But, yeah, I think, you know, settin' out

to make this record honestly I didn't

have that this is, I'm trying to go this direction

it was more of this is where I am right now.

You know, it's like a snapshot of the time

that I've been touring and how the songs

have developed that way.

And yeah, it happened to be I think

because we've been playin' so much

and you know testin' these songs on the road

it turned into more of, you know,

that live energy I guess, you know,

with havin' the horns and havin' the full band

gettin' seven or eight of us in a studio

at the same time and makin' the song that way.

So there's definitely more horns, more energy

in a lot of the tracks.

But it still, it's kind of, I call it an EP.

It's eight songs.

You know, you, whatever.

But I call it EP because we're still kinda

in this process of discovery.

I'm still a young guy tryin' to figure out

what kind of music I want to play

and I like to play a little bit of everything.

Yeah.

And tonight, got some folk songs,

some singer songwriter songs, some funk songs,

some soul songs, so it's all kinda blendin' together

and this EP is just, you know, another palette

of all that and the journey we've had

the past year or two figurin' that out.
