In Concert With CMS: Ravel and Debussy

This episode of "In Concert With CMS" opens with Ravel’s sublime “String Quartet in F-Major.” The composer’s use of sound coloration is a singular treat. Following that, you’ll hear Brahms’s “A-Minor Trio” for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano. Brahms takes full advantage of the somber sound of both clarinet and cello to create a poignant emotional journey.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
TRANSCRIPT

Welcome toIn Concert With CMS .

I'm Paula Zahn, and I'm

thrilled you could join us for a

program featuring riveting

performances from the Chamber

Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Our program begins with Maurice

Ravel's sublime "String

Quartet in F major." This four

movement work bears a

resemblance to Claude

Debussy's string quartet,

however, Ravel's use of sound

coloration is all his own.

We then close our program with

Johannes Brahms's "A minor

Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and

Piano." In this work, Brahms

takes advantage of the somber

sound of both clarinet and cello

to create a poignant emotional

journey.

We hope you enjoy!

[Applause]
