In Concert With CMS: Prokofiev and Shostakovich
In this episode of "In Concert With CMS" you’ll hear a lovely conversation between violin and piano with Prokofiev’s “Second Violin Sonata in D-Major.” Following that is a different flavor of Russian chamber music: the passionate and ironic “Piano Trio in E-Minor” from Dmitri Shostakovich, dedicated to the composer’s late friend Ivan Sollertinsky.

Welcome toIn Concert With CMS .
I'm Paula Zahn, and today we're
celebrating two 20th century
Russian masters with the Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center.
We'll open our program with
Sergei Prokofiev's "Second
Violin Sonata in D Major."
This lovely four movement work
is a great example of classical
chamber music and features a
lyrical conversation between
violin and piano.
We follow that up with a
different flavor of Russian
chamber music: the passionate
and ironic "Piano Trio in E
minor" of Dmitri Shostakovich.
Dedicated to the composer's late
friend Ivan Sollertinsky, this
elegiac composition covers a
large expanse of emotional and
musical ground.
We hope you enjoy!
