In Concert With CMS: Kreisler and Mendelssohn

This episode of "In Concert With CMS" features back-to-back quartets. The first is Kreisler’s four-movement “A-Minor String Quartet,” a tribute to the composer’s birthplace of Vienna. Following that, you’ll hear Mendelssohn’s “C-Minor Piano Quartet.” This four movement work was composed when Mendelssohn was only 13 years old, and already contains the composer’s melodicism and romanticism.

TRANSCRIPT

Welcome toIn Concert With CMS.

I'm Paula Zahn,

and you're in for a treat as

we present a program of

back-to-back quartets from the

Chamber Music Society of

Lincoln Center.

The first piece on our program

is by violin virtuoso turned

composer Fritz Kreisler.

Kreisler's four-movement "A

minor String Quartet,

" allegedly a tribute to the

composer's birthplace of

Vienna,

is full of playfulness and

dramatic depth.

Following that,

we'll hear the "C minor Piano

Quartet" of Felix Mendelssohn.

Also in four movements,

this pieces was composed when

Mendelssohn was only 13 years

old.

It already contains the

threads of melodicism and

romanticism that would come to

define Mendelssohn's sound.

We hope you enjoy these two

great chamber works!
