Welcome toIn Concert With CMS.
I'm Paula Zahn, and today we
have two divine sonatas for
you from the Chamber Music
Society of Lincoln Center.
First up is the "Cello Sonata"
of Samuel Barber, completed
when the composer was only 22
years old.
This three movement work is
moody and lyrical, oftentimes
echoing the expressiveness of
an earlier generation of
composers such as Robert
Schumann.
And speaking of Schumann, in
the second half of our program
we feature his own brand of
expressiveness with the
composer's "second Violin
Sonata."
Composed in a burst of
creative energy over the
course of three weeks,
Schumann's sonata is
virtuosic, full of passion,
and an absolute joy to hear.
Enjoy!
