Thank you.
I went to a high school where if you were like,
healthy and full grown and a man
they just sent you on the football field,
and I wasn't very aggressive obviously
'cause I think it was my second game of junior varsity
career I broke my leg.
And I was like forget this, and I just picked up
guitar instead, and went towards music
because I've always been into arts and music,
and thankfully I broke my leg I guess.
It doesn't bother me anymore.
I always like to sing in private,
I had one of those little cassette recorders
for taking notes, well it wasn't mine
it was my step-dads and I'd sneak it away
and I would just kind of practice listening to my voice,
back and hearing what it sounded like.
So I always kind of liked singing quietly,
I never spoke so my parents were shocked
when I first started singing.
♪ Paint chips on her fingernails ♪
I don't know, years later, when I picked up a guitar
somehow my parents found out
and it was all a big secret for years and years
that I was singing, 'cause I was extremely shy.
- I first kind of got to hold a guitar
when I was about 12 years old at my friends house
and tried to play it, I fell in love with it,
I begged my parents for a guitar for years.
They finally got me one, I got a guitar on a Friday,
started lessons on the following Monday,
and I had lessons ever since, very religiously.
I had to practice all the time.
I was definitely never considered a natural
by any of my teachers I would say.
(trumpet blaring)
- My first instrument was trumpet,
and I started getting really serious about music
probably in high school, marching band,
all the possible bands I could get my feet wet with
and then I pursued music in college,
and that's where I met Nick and Sean.
At Grand Rapids Community College,
and then from there I transferred to Michigan State
where I got a Bachelor of Composition and Music Theory,
and also a Master of Music Theory.
(upbeat drum beats)
For years in the band I played trumpet and keyboards,
and I would sing backup vocals,
and pick up what ever instrument I needed to play,
and then when I decided to take over drums
I said well I don't wanna give up trumpet,
that's what I love, that's what I've always done.
So we kinda got creative and we said
how can we make this work with three of us?
And we said, well we've got six hands, six feet
and three mouths, we'll just do what we need to do
to get the job done.

Outer Vibe kind of adapted the name Outer Vibe
because the music has always been kind of outside
of what's normal.
♪ Work, oh, oh, oh, oh
It was just kind of like what are some words
that can describe us, and we kind of wanted
to be kind of different, and out of the box,

'cause vibe became an extremely popular word.
I feel like in the past five years,
and this name we came up with it was 15 years ago,
maybe more.

A lot of the songs are, they're sweet melodies
and that's something that I care about
is giving the melody that people can sing,
and have it stuck in their head,
and they relate it with something that they
are close too, and I want people to relate to us
'cause we've had quite a journey as musicians
and we're still on that journey.

♪ Turn me up, turn me up with the money ♪
We touch on a lot of different topics,
it's kind of an inside joke but we always say,
the meaning of it is we're always trying
to kind of touch on mortality a bit.
And so we always say that we try to add a touch of death
to our music in the most positive light possible
because it's the concept of life is short
and so we like people to have a good time,
be in the moment.
Something that we're always striving to do.
- You know it's about delivering the song
and having people leave the show feeling better
then when they go there.
That's what we like to do,
and that's, I think we have the best job in the world.
To be honest.
One of the newest songs that we're playing tonight
is called "Million Dollar Smile".
I wrote the song because I was
inspired by some of the women in my life
that I really admire.
It's a song kind of about she's got a million dollar smile
that could light up the sky.
She's got everything that it takes to bring
her dreams to life, and we all know what it's like
to feel insecure sometimes, and to maybe
second guess yourself or have doubts.
And the people that I admire have that too,
but it doesn't seem like they do to me.
It's like I wanna be like them when I grow up
because they really seem to have it all together,
and I look at them and I'm like man,
I wish I could be like them.
But it's kind of a song about,
I mean nobody's perfect but you just go get it,
you go after it.
So it's kind of my own expression of my feelings about,
even myself sometimes but then I look at these people
and I can relate to them,
and sometimes you don't realize how much
like yourself they are.
So it's go chase your dreams,
you've got everything you need.
