Ever since I can remember, when I'd go onstage,

I'd feel more comfortable onstage.

I feel better onstage than in regular life.

When I'm onstage I really want it to be a party.

Like I want everyone to have fun.

The thing about me is right before I go on I'll get nervous.

Like, how many people or here, or who's here,

is anyone here?

All right, how y'all doing, y'all?

But then when you go out there and you see people

And then it's like, okay, I feel good now,

we can all have this experience together.

I don't feel scared once I start.

(upbeat blues music)

I grew up in a very musical family,

I have two sisters and a brother.

We'd sing together, a lot of folk music,

a lot of Americana, roots music.

My dad would play the guitar,

and the banjo, and the harmonica.

So he'd get the guitar out and we'd play

"Puff the Magic Dragon," "You Are My Sunshine."

We'd all sing and it stuck with us,

'cause it was really fun.

Then, take it a step further, I'm Armenian,

The blues is music that's raw, it's from the heart.

And the art form of the music we've learned

was born out of a lot of angst and pain.

♪ Oh, won't you meet me down

But the genre I think that I'm in now evolved.

It was really more of a classic rock, Americana kinda thing.

I love the blues and I think I'm doing it,

but I just didn't think I could really do it.

And I just kept doing it.

Pretty soon I started writing more blues.

and I just started writing more in that style.

of the Armenians.

Growing up in my household wasn't always so great.

Like, I love my parents, I love my dad,

there were some hard times there.

It had to be in piano, opera, and that's what I did
