ABOUT THE PROGRAM
TRANSCRIPT

Lynch: Previously on "Once Upon the Holidays,"

it was just another day in 2020

when the YPC choristers came out to sing

and spread a little joy and music into the world.

They were rocking the tri-state,

making everyone's day a little brighter.

Well, everyone except for one guy.

He didn't like the sound of the holidays one bit,

but the YPC choristers have a plan to change all that.

Hey. Hey.

You excited for the concert tonight?

I'm so excited, and you know,

those choruses were amazing on Friday night.

They brought the holiday spirit to everybody.

I loved it. I know.

There was so much joy.

You know, they were just bringing so much cheer and --

well, there's that one guy.

He's really gonna need a lot of --

He's a real Scrooge.

You -- [ Laughs ]

I'm serious. All the young people --

they have to work very hard to try to make him smile.

I think, um...

I think so, too, yeah. Yeah. [ Laughs ]

Let's go to Night 2.

Okay. I can't wait to. Night 2.

Night 2.

Lynch: And now a holiday program like no other,

"Once Upon the Holidays"!

Over the course of two incredible nights,

experience the magic and joy of the holiday season,

starring the amazing voices of

the Young People's Chorus of New York City,

founder and artistic director Francisco Núñez,

Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Núñez,

a story by Tony Award-winning Broadway lyricist Lynn Ahrens,

narrated by Sarah Batts,

and Sofia Papoulis

with conductors Caitlin Henning,

Sonny Willis,

and Emma Hathaway,

with pianist Taisiya Pushkar,

choreography by Jacquelyn Bird,

and our very special guest star...

We can't wait to share this musical journey with you,

all created in the key of looooove!

It's"Once Upon the Holidays." What better place to be

than here among the choristers who sing with YPC?

we met this cranky fellow who kept turning off the sound,

refuse to even hum along,

but soon he'll come around.

We'll sing some songs.

We'll bang some drums!

if there's a horn, we'll toot it.

[ Plays horn ]

We'll be so loud and wonderful, he will not want to mute it.

Yes, "Once Upon the Holidays," we're gonna do our thing!

-From living room... -...to bedroom...

from a closet with no head room..

...even coming from the bathroom,

we will make him want to sing.

Thank you all for joining us

We want to give a special thank you to our sponsors

and our favorite baritone, Scrooge 2.0 himself,

Lester Lynch,

and our endlessly talented writer, Lynn Ahrens.

Thank you to our narrators Sarah Batts

and Sofia Papoulis,

to our conductors Caitlin Henning,

Sonny Willis, and Emma Hathaway,

and our pianist Taisiya Pushkar.

Our choreography is by none other

than Jacquelyn Bird, and our audio engineering

and orchestrations by Jim Papoulis.

We would also like to thank Lincoln Center

for giving our chorusers the opportunity

to sing on their wonderful campus,

and to Steinway for their beautiful pianos.

And most importantly,

thank you to all the amazing young people of YPC

and our wonderful staff and crew.

It's been an incredible couple of nights,

but before we close out this wonderful program,

I want to share something with all of you.

It's no secret that this year has been uniquely challenging

for all of us,

but throughout it all, we have persevered.

We've created new virtual programs like this one,

released new albums, "Heroes" and "Just Songs,"

and "Canons" coming out in early 2021.

We've engineered new ways to deliver

the highest level of choral education,

and we've done it for one reason -- the young people

of the Young People's Chorus of New York City.

Through every challenge, we have looked to them

for inspiration, resilient spirit,

their willingness to change and adapt,

and their unshakable desire to sing together.

It has driven us to push through, to do more,

because they deserve the best.

Each child who walks through YPC's doors

brings a unique voice

which becomes a permanent part of our tapestry.

Tonight, as always, was a celebration of their voices.

And together, they have the power to change the world.

It's our privilege and honor to nurture these voices,

your children's voices.

And we look forward to a new full year of laughter,

joy, and most of all, harmony.

From our home to yours,

we wish you a happy holiday season

in the key of love.

Happy holidays to all, and to all a good night.
