(NEW YORK – March 6, 2019) Vocalist Julia Bullock will be the host of opera programming on the new ALL ARTS broadcast channel and streaming platform. Bullock has been hailed by Vanity Fair as “one of opera’s fastest-rising stars,” and according to The New York Times, she “has anchored some of the most innovative performances of recent years.” The Julliard-trained soprano now has a vast international career, which includes a San Francisco Opera debut in the world premiere of Girls of the Golden West, the title role of Purcell’s The Indian Queen with Teodor Currentzis at the Perm Opera House, The Bolshoi, and Teatro Real; and the starring role in Perle Noire: Meditations for Joséphine—a musical portrait of Josephine Baker that she developed in collaboration with Peter Sellars.

Bullock is currently serving as Artist in Residence with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where her voice and activism are on full display. Her performances so far as part of the residency have included History’s Persistent Voice, A Dream Deferred: Langston Hughes in Song, Nativity Reconsidered, and Perle Noire: Meditations for Joséphine.

In addition to hosting opera programming on ALL ARTS, Bullock will be curating the line-up of operas that are featured on the channel. Bringing her intimate knowledge of the genre, she will give personal and professional insights to the operas at the beginning of each episode. Katia Kabanova will be the premiere opera on Sunday, March 10 at 8 p.m. on the ALL ARTS broadcast channel, which is available locally in the New York area. The episode will also be available to stream nationally the same day on the ALL ARTS app and website. Katia Kabanova features the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord’s production of the Leoš Janácek opera. Told in three acts, the opera explores themes of forbidden love, as Katia contemplates life outside of her unhappy marriage.
