A recorded capture of the 2017 Broadway musical “Come From Away” lands on Apple TV+ on Sept. 10, bringing to the streaming platform a tale based on the real-life story of 7,000 airline passengers who were stranded together on Sept. 11, 2001. Directed by Christopher Ashley, the production was filmed in May at New York City’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in front of an audience that included 9/11 survivors and frontline workers.
The filmed musical includes cast members Petrina Bromley, Jenn Colella, De’Lon Grant, Joel Hatch, Tony LePage, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren, Emily Walton, Jim Walton, Sharon Wheatley, Paul Whitty and Caesar Samayoa, who was featured on an episode of ALL ARTS’ “Broadway Sandwich” during the production’s run.
“Come From Away” captures the events that transpired in a small town called Gander in Newfoundland, where 38 planes heading to the United States were diverted after airspace was shutdown following the Sept. 11 attacks. The show presents a look at how the community of strangers came together through acts of kindness, which saw local residents of the Canadian town making space for the displaced travelers.
The show is set to return to Broadway Sept. 21.
