Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is celebrating its 62nd anniversary with the launch of a brand new online streaming series, dubbed “Ailey All Access.”

Kicking off March 30 with a special broadcast of “Revelations,” the program brings together a collection of full-length works from the dance company‘s archive, Ailey Extension dance classes and original short films created by the dancers. The series will also include other content made specifically for the platform.

“Alvin Ailey created the ultimate prayer about overcoming adversity through hope and faith,” Robert Battle, Ailey’s artistic director, said in a statement announcing the series. “During this period, it is fitting that we are launching ‘Ailey All Access’ with his ‘Revelations’ on the Company’s birthday. I know in my heart that he would be proud to see that we are taking on a challenge and seizing an opportunity to explore new ways of lifting up hearts, minds and spirits with the transformative power of dance.”

“Revelations” will be streamed online at 7 p.m. Monday. The 2015 film, drawn from the “Live from Lincoln Center” archive, is introduced by Battle and includes commentary from dancers. The stream will also be simultaneously hosted by “Lincoln Center at Home,” which launched last week in an effort to entertain audiences while the Lincoln Center campus is closed. Those who miss the premiere can catch the performance online until 7 p.m. April 2.

Viewers can get a sneak peek of the evening’s presentation on Ailey’s Instagram feed, where dancer Hope Boykin led a workshop Monday afternoon. The dance company also invites audiences to share videos (with movement or words) expressing what “Revelations” means to them with the hashtag #MyRevelations.

The series continues with performances scheduled every Thursday, beginning April 2. Highlights include a presentation of Judith Jamison’s “Divining,” Camille A. Brown’s “City of Rain” and Rennie Harris’ “Lazarus.”

Following the announcement that the company’s U.S. tour was canceled in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, members of the Ailey company re-created the opening number of Ailey’s “Revelations” by stitching together videos made by the dancers in isolation. The result represents the type of videos that will fill the original video portion of the series, #TheShowMustGoOn, which officially launched Monday with a new collaborative video inspired by Rennie Harris’ “Lazarus.”
