Food Book Fair

A festival that celebrates food and literature? What could possibly be better? The Food Book Fair, previously named the “Foodieodicles,” features a roster of author readings and literary inspired bites. Entry is free, but there may be an additional cost to partake in the festival’s cuisine.

First Friday Sound Baths
Brooklyn Music School, Brooklyn
March 1; 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Brooklyn Music School is offering a series of relaxing programs meant to help you “unplug from the demands of daily life.” Enjoy the unique sounds of crystal and Himalayan singing bowls, hand pans, gongs and other instruments.

Heal The Man in Order to Heal The Land
Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island
March 2 to Dec. 29
Local artist Tattfoo Tan creates work that focuses on sustainability and healthy living. The artist, whose work has previously been shown by the Laundromat Project, builds installations that blend man-made objects with organic materials, suggesting harmonies between man and earth.

Artists Respond to Politics
Bronx Art Space, Bronx
Feb. 27-April 6
A slew of local artists, including Seyi Adebanjo and Lizzy Alejandro, share their thoughts about current affairs in this politically prescient show. In addition to providing those creators with a platform to showcase their work, the Bronx Art Space exhibition features open mic nights and panel discussions.

“Personal Spaces”
